This backcountry ski adventure includes 1 free ski day, 7 guided ski days, and 1 cultural day, allowing you to experience Hokkaido’s legendary powder and rich culture. Stay 4 nights in Niseko, 2 nights in Otaru, and 3 nights in Tokachidake with traditional breakfast and dinner included in Tokachidake. 5 days of lift passes are included, as well as private door-to-door transfers on all guided ski days and private transfers between each destination.

You'll explore rugged landscapes of Daisetsuzan National Park, and hidden gems such as Goshiki Onsen and Yoichi-dake. We'll also have the option to ski sidecountry of renowned resorts like Niseko, Kiroro, Furano, Kamui, and Tomamu if the weather takes a turn, or the legs need a rest. Every location offers its own unique terrain and scenery, giving you the ultimate mix of challenging runs, serene landscapes, and cultural experiences.
This trip is designed for fit and experienced ski tourers or splitboarders who are comfortable navigating advanced, steep terrain and have prior backcountry and powder experience. With a focus on untouched lines and deep snow, guests should be prepared for full days of touring in remote areas, including some of Hokkaido’s highest peaks. This is the perfect adventure for those looking to explore Japan's wildest backcountry.
This tour runs from January 7-16, 2025, providing the perfect window to experience Hokkaido's peak powder season. Arriving just after the New Year, guests can opt to spend a weekend in Tokyo before the tour, helping to adjust to the time zone while exploring Japan's vibrant capital. Alternatively, additional ski days can be arranged if you're looking to extend your adventure. While this is a set hosted trip, we also offer bespoke private tours throughout the season, with the best months for optimal conditions being between January and March.
Our journey begins in Niseko, where we’ll spend four nights exploring iconic peaks like Mt. Yotei and Shirebetsu-dake, before heading to the coastal town of Otaru. Here, we’ll ski the backcountry of Kokusai and Teine, where steep slopes meet stunning sea views, and explore hidden gems like Goshiki Onsen and Yoichi-dake. If you need a break or the weather turns, there are plenty of local delights to enjoy – from visiting the Yoichi Whiskey Distillery to sampling fresh sushi.
From there, we’ll make our way to Tokachidake, Hokkaido’s premier backcountry location. We’ll roam the vast Daisetsuzan National Park, connecting Kurodake, Asahidake, and Tokachidake, where endless backcountry options await. After each thrilling day on the slopes, relax in one of the area’s many natural onsens (hot springs), and reflect on the incredible skiing and spectacular scenery of Japan’s north.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Niseko. Settle into the Yumoto Niseko Prince Hotel Hirafutei. Enjoy a relaxing evening soaking in the onsen or exploring the village.

Day 2: Free skiing around Niseko. Explore Niseko’s renowned terrain and get warmed up for the days ahead. In the evening, take in Niseko’s vibrant nightlife with a visit to local restaurants and bars.

Day 3: Full day of guided backcountry skiing around Niseko. Depending on the conditions, options include lift-accessed backcountry in Niseko, Moiwa, or Rusutsu, or touring in nearby ranges.

Day 4: Another day of guided backcountry skiing. Seek out untouched lines and deep powder in Niseko’s surrounding ranges, taking advantage of the region’s endless options for advanced terrain.

Day 5: Depart Niseko for Otaru, with guided skiing en route. Explore the backcountry or enjoy some lift-accessed terrain at Kiroro, known for its deep snow and steep runs. Spend the evening exploring the historic port town of Otaru.

Day 6: Guided ski touring in the nearby mountain ranges like like Goshiki Onsen and Yoichi-dake or lift-assisted skiing at Kokusai and Teine, where steep slopes meet stunning sea views. In the evening, unwind with a visit to the Yoichi Whiskey Distillery or enjoy fresh sushi in town.

Day 7: Spend the morning exploring the charming port town of Otaru before transferring up to Tokachidake at 2 p.m. Check into Ryounkaku Tokachidake and enjoy a traditional Japanese dinner.

Day 8: Guided ski touring around Daisetsuzan National Park. Explore the untouched backcountry of this iconic area, with options to ski famous peaks such as Kurodake, Asahidake, and Tokachidake.

Day 9: Another day of guided touring in Daisetsuzan National Park. Depending on conditions, we can also explore nearby resorts like Furano, Kamui, or Tomamu as weather alternatives.

Day 10: A final morning of guided skiing around Tokachidake, followed by an afternoon transfer to Sapporo for departure or onward travel.
