Ski-touring FAQs
No! If you can ski powder to an intermediate standard in the resort, then you are going to be just fine. Skiing in the backcountry is usually a little easier as you aren't skiing through choppy, tracked out powder. Good fitness is required, and some powder skiing knowledge, but you don't need to be an expert.
We recommend being as fit as you can be before ski touring of course, but as long as you can hike at a moderate pace for 2+ hours in a day, you will be able to ski tour. Strong legs, and good cardiovascular fitness are a great advantage when ski touring, but if you can ski all day, chances are you will be just fine.
It can get expensive buying a full set up, so we recommend renting equipment to make sure you like ski touring before taking the plunge and buying all the equipment (although we haven't met anyone who didn't like it yet!). We can organize rentals at all of our destinations, so just let us know.
Please email us at [email protected] and one of our ski touring experts will get in touch to chat about your options. We are all experiences backcountry skiers and have skied all over the world, so feel free to ask us any pressing questions you might have.
We have travelled across the world to hand pick guides at each of our destination. We have skied with dozens of different guides, in order to have a good range of personalities and specialties to suit all of our guests. We ensure that all of our guides have the highest qualifications on the planet, usually an ACMG or IFMGA or equivalent.
